KitKat’s new wrapper forces you to take a break without your phone.

To encourage breaks that focus on carbs instead of doomscrolling and texting, KitKat in Panama created a limited edition Faraday cage wrapper for your phone that blocks cell signals. The wrapper is made from layers of copper, polyester, and polypropylene and is expected to work for about a year at which point you can recycle it.

Sergey Brin, MAGA warrior.

The NYT has a deep dive into the Google co-founder’s hard turn to the right, which is either because he hates the proposed billionaire tax in California or because he’s super into his hardcore MAGA girlfriend. (Or both.) In any case, he’s having “intimate” dinners with Trump — and bringing Sundar Pichai along for the ride.

We have gone through the first 20 potential jurors.

We’ll get another set of 20 shortly. So far, five people have disliked Musk enough to bring it up, but all but one say they can be fair. Lots of people have used AI, with varying opinions on it.

Lose the new Steam Controller? You can ring it like a phone.

Every controller should have this, right? With most pads, you’d be lucky to even vibrate them at a distance — but TIL that official Nintendo Switch 2 pads do this too.

Block’s new crypto wallet has a screen.

Jack Dorsey’s Block has launched a follow-up to its coaster-like Bitkey wallet, featuring an OLED touchscreen display that crypto holders can use to verify transactions and “authorize every security-critical operation in the wallet,” according to a post on X. The hardware wallet costs $250 and is available to preorder now.

Sony’s new covers wrap your WF-1000XM6 earbuds in vegan leather.

The best (currently) noise-canceling earbuds will feel even more premium with Sony’s new $39.99 case covers that wrap the WF-1000XM6’s charging case in a smooth vegan leather finish. The cover is available in black and light gray, and while it makes the case slightly larger, it doesn’t inhibit wireless charging.

The dual camera version of DJI Osmo Pocket 4 could come to the US as the Xtra Muse 2 Pro.

Leaked photos and videos have revealed a dual camera pro version of the Osmo Pocket 4 that DJI almost certainly won’t release in the US. But Xtra Techology, the company that sells “exact hardware copies” of many DJI products, teased its new dual camera Muse 2 Pro coming to the US that looks a lot like the leaked Osmo Pocket 4P.

Meta’s latest energy deal is for 24/7 orbit-to-grid solar power.

Meta announced a new deal this morning with Overview Energy, a space-based solar company with plans to demo beaming “energy wirelessly from space to a solar farm on Earth” in 2028, ahead of commercial delivery in 2030.

Its satellites sit in geosynchronous orbit roughly 22,000 miles above Earth’s equator, where sunlight is constant, collecting energy in space and beaming it to Earth-based solar facilities on the ground as low-intensity, near-infrared light. This means solar farms that currently sit idle at night can keep producing electricity around the clock, maximizing their output and creating more energy for the grid.

In space, no one can hear you over-decorate for Halloween.

Home Depot’s 12-foot Skelly is still a holiday headliner after nearly 7 years, but Spirit Halloween’s new Alien Xenomorph could be an even bigger draw for brave trick-or-treaters this year. The $450 animatronic features sounds inspired by the original film and multiple movements including an inner mouth that extends and screams.

The Time Frog Color is a watch-sized Game Boy Color that plays tiny carts.

Instead of taking the easy route with an emulator, Chris Hackmann, the modder behind the excellent Frog Boy Color, created a watch-sized Game Boy Color using the handheld’s original CPU. It also plays games through custom tiny cartridges and features a tiny D-pad on the side along with other button controls.

The long rumored foldable iPad may never see the light of day.

Apple has supposedly been working on a folding tablet since at least 2023. The rumored release has slipped from 2024, to 2026, to 2028, to 2029, and now, according to Mark Gurman, it might not happen at all. While it was a priority for incoming CEO John Ternus, its future is now in doubt:

Foldable iPad: Apple has been working on a roughly 20-inch foldable iPad. This device has been a Ternus priority but may end up being a wacky experiment that doesn’t see the light of day, according to several people who have worked on it.

The villain-loaded Spider-Noir trailer comes in two flavors.

There’s the way any good noir is meant to be consumed — in high-contrast monochrome below. And then there is a “True-Hue Full Color” that frankly sucks all the fun out of it and just serves to highlight the seams in the mediocre CGI.

New Art City is a free virtual gallery filled with beautifully bizarre art.

There are dozens of exhibitions that you can walk through in your browser. Some feature 3D scanned sculptures, others are glitchy worlds populated by sound experiments, and some have branching poetry for you to explore. Each 3D world is “multiplayer”, so you can visit a virtual opening and chat with other art fans.

ADT confirms customer data was stolen in a breach.

The prolific ShinyHunters group is claiming responsibility and threatening to leak the stolen data unless a ransom is paid. ADT has said that the info was mostly limited to names, phone numbers, and addresses, and that credit card or bank account information was not compromised.

The investigation confirmed that the information involved was limited to names, phone numbers, and addresses. In a small percentage of cases, dates of birth and the last four digits of Social Security numbers or Tax IDs were included. Critically, no payment information — including bank accounts or credit cards — was accessed, and customer security systems were not affected or compromised in any way.
